If your summer vacation plans include a trip to the North Oregon Coast, you will want to add this fun adventure to your list of things to do…

Welcome aboard!  The one and only Oregon Coast Crawler will take you on an amazing 5 hour journey this day. Originating in Garibaldi, we make a leisurely trip up the Oregon Coast affording fantastic panoramic views of both Tillamook and Nehalem Bays. Our vintage train stops for a waterside picnic lunch and free time at Wheeler as well as an afternoon snack and beach stop in Rockaway Beach.

After our lunch stop during which we service the engine we do it all again in reverse from Wheeler, allowing for different sightseeing opportunities on the return trip. No other railroad in North America offers the range of scenery found on the Tillamook Branch Line, and no train in recent years has made it possible to experience it all behind steam power.

A minimum of three photo runbys have been scheduled and more will be added if time permits. A lunch made with local ingredients will be served at Wheeler picnic-style in the park. An open car will be part of our consist to enjoy the fresh air and unparalleled views. As this trip is limited to less than 100 passengers, we highly recommend making your reservations ASAP. Feel free to call us at 503-292-5055 if you have any questions. Click here: www.railsnw.com

Hey all,

If you haven’t seen fireworks displayed at the beach, you still have time to plan your trip! The rockets red glare over the ocean breakers is a sight to behold. Last minute lodging can still be found for Oregon Coast vacation rentals in many locations. Cities up and down the coast, including Astoria, Seaside, Rockaway, Yachats, Coos Bay, Bandon and Gold Beach have festivities planned.

  • Astoria’s fun starts Friday and runs through Sunday with Fireworks over the Columbia River at dusk Saturday evening.
  • On the 4th of July, Seaside presents the biggest and most spectacular firework show on the Pacific Northwest coast.
  • Rockaway Beach will be celebrating their 100th anniversary starting this Friday. Events are planned through Sunday culminating with a big Birthday Bash that will include Birthday Cake.
  • Join Yachats fun filled Independence Day celebration, including their 15th annual, “La De Da” parade at noon on July 4th. Great food and music is planned all day with a spectacular fireworks Display at dusk over the Yachats Bay.
  • The Coos Bay area has many activities planned including “Sandfest 2009” at the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area “Boxcar”.  Mingus Park will be the site of the “Family Fun Day” including the Mayor’s “Firecracker Run” at 10:00 AM. The City of Coos Bay will provide Fireworks at dusk by the waterfront.
  • Bandon will hold the “Bandon by the Sea Old fashioned Independence Day of Celebration” festival on July 4th. The parade starts at 10:00 am along Hwy 101 & though Old Town. Activities will be held all day in City Park including a BBQ and Fireworks.

Rockaway Pet Friendly Vacation

Buddy & Bear at Rockaway Beach

Want to take Fido to the Oregon beach and have beachfront access to? Well, you can! A nice selection of  pet friendly vacation rentals in Rockaway offer oceanfront views with sand just outside your door. The whole family can vacation together and not sacrifice ”the view” just because you want to bring Fido.  Here’s a favorite on my oceanfront pet friendly getaway list… its called Cozy Beach Front Cottage, complete with a deck, an oceanfront sunroom and a fireplace!

Rockaway Beach is on the North Oregon Coast boasting seven miles of pristine beach for you and ”sandy paws” to explore. It’s a nice little drive (about 7 miles) heading south from Manzanita around Nehalem Bay to Rockaway. You will want to allow time to stop while going through these quaint little towns… especially if you like to hunt for antique treasures… and save your appetite for breakfast or lunch…there is a yummy little restaurant called Wanda’s Cafe & Bakery in Nehalem. The food has been consistently great every time we go, the wait is worth it. Its a fun 50′s retro style that sort of feels like going to Grandma’s house.

And speaking of fun… Rockaway has a site seeing train ride that runs May through November (and I read on their web page) they will allow well behaved leashed dogs too! That could change, so you might want to double check before Fido gets too excited. In May they have the annual Kite festival and in June you can enjoy Wine, Cheese & All that Jazz which includes an all day event of food, wine tasting and dancing…  Makes me want to pack up the family and head to Rockaway!

~Thanks & have fun AT THE BEACH!
