Heceta Head Lighthouse from HWY 101

Heceta Head Lighthouse from HWY 101

We have started in the north and we’re working our way south… exploring the Lighthouses of the Oregon Coast. Up to this point our lighthouse tour has included Tillamook Head, Cape Meares, Yaquina Head and the Yaquina Bay lighthouses.

Our next  stop…  “Heceta Head” lighthouse, located between the cities of Yachats & Waldport which are to the north, and Florence to the south. Plenty of  ocean view vacation getaway options can be found between these cities… Yachats offers vacation rentals with views of the beautiful rocky coastline…  Waldport which is close by has beach front & bay view rentals…  Florence offers new bayfront condos…  and be sure to check out this ocean view home Heceta House  if you are traveling with a family.

Heceta Head lighthouse is located in Heceta Head State Park  in a cove, at the mouth of Cape Creek.  The park offers stunning views of the lighthouse with the Pacific Ocean in the background. You will soon see why it’s one of the most photographed lighthouses on the Oregon Coast!

The Heceta Head lighthouse was illuminated in 1894 and sits on the west side of the 1000 foot high Heceta Head.  It stands 205 feet above sea level with its light on top of a 56 foot high tower. With a first order Fresnel lens containing eight panels and 640 prisms 2 inches thick, this lighthouse has the distinction of having the strongest light on the Oregon Coast which can be seen 21 miles out to sea.

The next stop in our adventure… the “Umpqua River” lighthouse located just south of the beautiful city of Reedsport Oregon.

Relaxing in Yachats Oregon

Deck View in Yachats

For a great place to relax and watch crashing waves along a rocky shoreline… head south down the coast to the quiet little town of Yachats…  known for its historic 804 Trail, a scenic walk winding in and out of beautiful native plants and ocean views. It begins at the Smelt Sands State Wayside, located one mile north of downtown on Hwy 101. The trail is wheelchair accessible & a great place to walk Bowser too! This amazing Yachats vacation rental  sits just off the trail and has awesome views of the crashing surf. (You can rent both sides of this oceanfront duplex and sleep up to 16!)

During the summer season, Yachats has a Saturday Market that you won’t want to miss. When we went last year, I saw so many beautiful unique plants for sale (you can’t find these at Freddies:)  hand made bakery items and local art work.  For indoor entertainment, check out the annual Yachats Music Festival  for 2009,  July 10-12.  It’s a 3 day festival including performances by 20-30 major classical artists. You can purchase tickets at the Yachats Visitors Center.  Visit the Yachats Chamber web site for more info.

The great thing about vacationing anywhere along the Oregon Coast is… no matter what the weather,  if its grey & stormy or sunny and blue,  relaxation comes easy…especially in a  vacation rental with an ocean view  it can do wonders for the soul… so cozy up to a window spot or head out on the deck and just  r e l a a a x……

~ Thanks & have fun AT THE BEACH!
