Welcome to this charming, newly updated, waterfront cabin! This delightful Lopez Island home snuggles into a hillside covered with old-growth conifer trees and sculptural Madrona’s. Klahowya features mesmerizing blue water vistas across Thatcher Pass toward Blakely Island, and on a clear day you will see the snow-covered cone of Mount Baker in the distance. You will also enjoy watching the parade of boats headed from Anacortes to the Islands that pass by the windows as well as the shimmering reflection of the Washington State Ferry as it glides by on a regular schedule.

Warm colors, knotty pine, and tasteful furnishings create a comfortable island style in this home. All main rooms focus toward the fabulous views, including the two bedrooms, each with a queen-sized bed, one on the main level and one on the lower level. The lower level bedroom also offers a gas fireplace, TV in the sitting area, and private deck - the perfect place to watch the eagles soar overhead. The kitchen is well equipped with a gas range and new appliances and there are added contemporary benefits of satellite TV, located in the lower larger bedroom only, and wireless internet service.

You will find Klahowya to be a quiet, restful place that is perfect for an Island getaway in all seasons. It is located only 200 yards from the Upright Head Nature Preserve where you can hike and maybe find the eagles nest! In addition, this house is only a mile from Odlin State Park, where you will find a great beach, public dock, and boat launch. Being close to the ferry landing, this home is also a great spot for those who arrive via bicycle.

_Please note that this home has a high bank exposure to the waterfront, so children under 14 years of age will not be permitted. The home is Dog Friendly, but be aware that your best pal will also require vigilant supervision due to this dramatic setting._ Please note that this home is pet friendly but certain breeds are excluded. Please inquire before booking as to breeds and associated pet fees.

Things to See & Do

Local Attractions:
Lopez Island is the third largest San Juan Island, 15 miles long and 8 miles wide. Lopez offers a rural atmosphere, consisting primarily of rolling hills and flat pastureland, and is a popular destination for bicyclists, including those who participate in the annual Tour de Lopez. If you long to escape the frantic distractions of urbanity, Lopez Island is the perfect destination. Activities Mountain vistas, sandy shorelines, a quaint, yet sophisticated, small village, and a relaxed attitude are what you'll enjoy on Lopez Island. On one day, explore Shark Reef Sanctuary and wander among 45 acres of trails in old growth woods and beside scenic coastal vistas; on another day, head to Spencer Spit State Park for clamming and crabbing. Within a ten minute drive of the Washington State ferry landing, you'll come to Lopez Village. This is where you'll find fine dining, quality shops and galleries, wine tasting, and an exceptional food market. Drive a little further, and you'll arrive at Fisherman's Bay and the Marina. As in all of the San Juan Islands, water-based activities can't be missed; arrange whale watching, kayaking, and boat tours at the local marinas. As many whale watching tours leave from San Juan Island, consider including a day trip to Friday Harbor when you schedule this adventure.

"Peaceful, quiet getaway. My husband and I enjoyed staying at this property in September. The location near the ferry was convenient. The kitchen was well equipped, which was good since we cooked and ate in quite a bit. The bathroom was great, but we wished it had been downstairs with the master bedroom. The bed was comfortable and the fireplace was perfect for chilly evenings and mornings. We enjoyed watching TV from the comfy couch in the master as well. Of course the star of this rental is the view! Looking out at the water and all the natural beauty was mesmerizing. I was fortunate to be up before the sun one morning, and the sunrise coming up over the distant island and reflecting off the bay with all its colors was spectacular!" —Guest from Carlsbad, CA

"Wonderful home in a wonderful location- We loved our trip to Lopez Island. It is such a beautiful place - from the deck of the house you can just watch the world go by. Other reviews are accurate - you're close to the ferry but it is in no way bothersome. We actually liked it the day we left because we could easily get in the ferry line and then hang out at the house. The island is so beautiful - just enough to do but still has a sleepy vibe to it. The house itself was really nice and very well maintained" —Lucy P from Seattle, WA
