Finders Keepers in Lincoln City: Hunt for Glass Floats on the Oregon Coast

Imagine strolling along a beautiful stretch of the Oregon Coast, listening to the waves and enjoying the fresh ocean air, when something colorful catches your eye. Tucked among the sand and driftwood is a beautiful handblown glass float, and it's yours to keep!

That's the excitement of Finders Keepers, one of Lincoln City's most beloved coastal traditions.

Every year, thousands of colorful glass floats are hidden along Lincoln City's beaches, giving visitors an extra reason to explore the shoreline. Whether you're visiting for a weekend getaway or spending a week in a beachfront vacation rental, searching for one of these little treasures can turn an ordinary beach walk into a memorable adventure.

What Is Lincoln City's Finders Keepers?

Finders Keepers is a year-round treasure hunt featuring handcrafted glass floats created by talented artists.

The tradition was inspired by Japanese glass fishing floats that once washed ashore along the Pacific Coast. Today, local glass artists create colorful treasures that are placed along Lincoln City's seven miles of sandy beaches.

For 2026, more than 3,000 floats are being placed throughout the year, with additional floats during special events and holidays.

The best part? If you find one, you get to keep it!

Each float is a unique piece of coastal artwork and a wonderful reminder of your Oregon Coast vacation.

Where Can You Find Glass Floats?

Glass floats can be found along Lincoln City's public beaches, from Roads End at the north end of town to Siletz Bay at the south end.

The floats are placed above the high tide line and below the beach embankment. They aren't buried in the sand or hidden in the beach grass.

There's no secret map or guaranteed location. Floats are placed at different times during daylight hours, making each beach walk a new opportunity.

Some favorite areas to explore include Roads End, the beach near the D River, and the long sandy stretches around Nelscott and Taft.

Remember that the floats can be placed anywhere along the designated shoreline, so patience and a little luck are part of the fun.

Halloween Brings an Extra Special Treasure Hunt

If you're planning a visit to Lincoln City this fall, there's another reason to pack your bags!

A special Halloween Finders Keepers event is scheduled for October 30 through November 1, 2026, with 50 additional glass floats planned for the beaches.

It's a fun way to combine a fall beach getaway with a little treasure hunting.

Imagine spending the morning searching for a colorful float, enjoying lunch at a local restaurant, and returning to your vacation rental for a relaxing evening by the fireplace.

Special float drops are subject to change because of unsafe ocean conditions, so check the official event information before heading out.

More Coastal Treasures to Find

Even if you don't find a glass float, Lincoln City's beaches have plenty of other treasures waiting to be discovered.

Look for colorful agates, smooth beach stones, unusual shells, and pieces of driftwood polished by the ocean.

After storms, new treasures can wash ashore, making beachcombing especially interesting during the fall and winter months.

Low tide can expose additional stretches of beach, but always check the tide schedule and stay alert for sneaker waves, strong surf, and moving driftwood.

The ocean is beautiful, but conditions can change quickly.

Make a Weekend of Your Lincoln City Adventure

There's so much more to enjoy in Lincoln City beyond searching for glass floats.

Spend an afternoon exploring the shops and galleries, enjoy fresh seafood overlooking the ocean, or visit the historic Taft District along Siletz Bay.

For a scenic outing, take a drive south toward Depoe Bay, where gray whales can sometimes be spotted feeding near shore during the fall.

Or simply enjoy a long beach walk, watch the sunset, and relax in the comfort of your vacation rental.

Lincoln City offers a wonderful combination of outdoor adventure, coastal charm, and opportunities to unwind.

Stay Near the Beach and Enjoy the Hunt

One of the best ways to experience Finders Keepers is by staying in a vacation rental near the ocean.

With a beach house or coastal cottage as your home base, you can enjoy morning walks, explore different sections of shoreline, and return whenever the weather looks inviting.

Vacation rentals also offer the space and comfort to enjoy time together with family or friends, whether you're planning a romantic weekend or a longer coastal getaway.

And if you're lucky enough to find a glass float, don't forget to register it through Explore Lincoln City. You'll receive a certificate of authenticity and information about the artist who created your treasure.
