Things to See & Do

Local Attractions:
Arch Cape is less populated than the neighboring towns of Cannon Beach and Manzanita. Visitors can enjoy wandering along the peaceful, serene beaches while exploring interesting tide pools, caves, and even a waterfall, as well as hiking nearby trails. Arch Cape is the ideal destination for those seeking relaxation but also a chance to explore the natural beauty of the coast. Curious what else this off the beaten path beach town offers? Here are a few ideas:

Explore Just north of Arch Cape is Hug Point Recreation Area, a designated Oregon state park. The sweetly named area earned the moniker from early travelers to Arch Cape. Prior to the highway being constructed, in order to get around the rocks that jet into the ocean, the 19th-century stagecoaches and cars would travel south along the beach and then “hug” the point at low tide in order to get to Arch Cape. In fact you can still see the tire ruts that were carved in the rocks. You’ll also want to spend some time exploring the caves and waterfall. You can easily make an afternoon of it with a packed lunch, frisbee for the dog, and kites for the kids! If you are staying in Arch Cape, you can avoid the sometimes crowded parking lot and take a refreshing walk up the beach to reach the area. You’ll have the added bonus of walking past a smaller version of Haystack Rock. Be sure to time your walk at low tide so you can explore the tide pools that surround the rock.

Walk to the south end of Arch Cape and you’ll find an equally interesting rock outcropping. At the very lowest tides, you’ll even be able to walk through the arch to reach a magical beach that is only exposed during low tide. Just be sure to allow time to return back through the arch before the tide rolls in.

Hiking The 382-mile Oregon Coast Trail passes through Arch Cape. You can pick up the section that crosses over Neahkahnie Mountain by walking east on Shingle Mill Road at the south end of Arch Cape. Watch for a little foot bridge on your right and follow that to access the lush trail that winds its way through the exceptionally-preserved old growth forest. If you hike 3.5 miles to Cape Falcon, you’ll be rewarded by stunning views of the Pacific. If you’re looking for a longer hike, continue on until you reach Oswald West State Park. Follow the trail down to Smuggler’s Cove, aka Short Sands Beach, where you can take a break and marvel at the surfers in action.

Water Sports If you’re looking for adventure, bring your surf board, boogie board, or sea kayak, or if you prefer, you can rent from nearby Cleanline Surf in Cannon Beach. The water is definitely cold, so you will likely want to pack a wetsuit too. For a fun and challenging afternoon, try kayaking around Castle Rock at the south end of Arch Cape. Once you get over the break, head out to get a close up view of the variety of birds nesting on the rock.

After a day of adventure and exploring, you’ve likely worked up an appetite. Drive 10 minutes up the coast, and you’ll find just what you’re craving! Whether it’s a fresh seafood feast or a casual burger and beer, nearby Cannon Beach offers a variety of restaurants.

"Our family has stayed in many short term rentals on the Oregon Coast over the years Santo Cristo is our top pick. The location feels like the coast is yours alone though our favorite hikes or amenities are minutes away in Oswald West State Park or Manzanita. The home was clean stylish and comfortable. This beautiful house affords a place for everyone from children to teens to parents to have their space for games movies a view or food and drinks. The wares needed for a self contained vacation were provided. However a run to town for food supplies or a Left Coast Burrito was still short trip away. The beautiful views of the ocean isolated walks on the beach at low tide and abundant wildlife sea birds bald eagles and elk made the stay spectacular. Our next visit will be with friends planned around celebrating wine and food in this this perfect setting" —Peter K

"My extended family of nine adults enjoyed an extralong Easter weekend at Santo Cristo. The house is spacious with plenty of comfortable sleeping space. We spent most of our time in the large kitchen which has a beautiful ocean view. The manager was very responsive to any needs we had during our stay. The walk to the beach can be challenging for older or less mobile people as there is a very steep descent down a bouldercovered slope to reach the sand at low tide. Its just a quick drive to Cannon Beach and there are plenty of beautiful ocean views to enjoy along the way. We would love to come back to this house again and would recommend it for large groups." —Melissa F

"This home has all the bells and whistles With a family of 12 from ages 1 and up we were comfortable during our 4 day visit The kids had a blast in the game room, The large tv and spacious sectional couch was great for movie nights Kitchen was well equipped with appliances, This was our favorite place to hangout. The ocean view from the living room was stunning. Perfect spot to grab a book and relax. The sounds of the waves were so calming. The drive into town was short .The small market had many of our needs For larger purchases we drove further into town to the larger store This was more cost effective. WIFI is limited but didnt takeaway from our experience. We plan to visit again and hope to make this our annual vacation trip" —Pendora S

"This house was so beautiful and immaculately done The spaciousness dcor amenities etc were spot on and exactly what we were hoping for We had three families with us including adults and kids and we were never crowded The views of the ocean are amazing One suggestion I would have for the owner is to add a deck on the beach side so people can sit outside and watch the ocean The outdoor space was in the back Overall I would give this house a 1010 and we plan to go back a long weekend was not long enough This house and the coast of Oregon is simply breathtaking" —Melissa A

In the many years of vacationing on the Oregon Coast, our stay at Santo Cristo exceeds them all! With the size of our large group (12,) there was plenty of room to gather and enjoy. Spacious, yet cozy. It's location is close to all of our favorites, (Manzanita, Oswald West State Park, Cannon Beach,) but in the most serene of settings. We enjoyed watching the eagle with it's morning catch out the expansive windows as we sipped on our coffee...what a treat! Pictures do not do this spectacular home justice! We're already planning our return!

Spacious and accommodating
"We had a relaxing and comfortable stay at Santo Cristo. This house was perfect for our group of 10. The location is very close to some of our favorite hiking trails. It was truly wonderful to come back to the house after a day of exploring, kick back and watch the waves roll in. We all agreed the kitchen and dining area was the hub of our gathering. It has plenty of counter top space for buffet style meals, seating for everyone and another great ocean view."

Beautiful and Relaxing!
"We had a fantastic multigenerational family gathering at Santo Cristo. The younger members kept entertained with ping pong and shuffleboard tournaments, while others enjoyed wave watching and cooking. Actually cooking while wave watching! The house has spectacular ocean views and a relaxing feel. A couple early risers, sipping coffee in the sun room, were surprised with an elk sighting. This was a fun trip for us and we will definitely stay here again."
