Beach Safety

Logs - Small water soaked logs are heavier than they look and can weigh tons..  all it takes is 4-inches of water to move a five-ton log! Play it safe and stay away from logs near the surf amd on the sand.

Falling Rocks - Avoid walking or digging at the base or the edge of a cliff or a bluff that could be eroding, and stay clear of caves and overhangs.

Sneaker Waves - An unpredictable surge of water and sand with a deadly force which can appear without warning

Rip Currents - Rip currents are strong currents of water that rush out to sea. They are stronger than even the best swimmer. These currents can swiftly sweep unwary beachcombers and waders off their feet and out to sea. Rip currents may appear as dark, choppy water. Any time you see debris and foam floating out to sea, chances are you have found a rip current. Avoid the area.

Tides - Stay off rocks and small enclosed beaches during incoming tides. Pick up a free tide table from a State Park Office, local information, shopping or lodging center.

Please use caution, stay alert and never turn your back on the ocean. For more beach safety tips visit the Oregon State Parks and Recreation Department.
